Tiffany Mills Company Opening Night GalaFollowing the performance on May 30, 2013 join us for our Opening Night Gala! Celebrate with the Company at BAM Fisher in honor of the World Premiere of 'Berries and Bulls' and the first look at 'The Feast (Part 1)'. Ticket prices include BOTH the Performance and Gala.
Berries and Bulls is an exposé on the inherent tangles found in long-term relationships. Using movement and text, four people vibrating on different frequencies try to connect. They misread signals; push and taunt each other to extremes in a series of physically risky games that ask: What are our expectations of each other? Can we trust those closest to us? Originally shown as a quartet at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in 2012, Berries and Bulls has been re-imagined with an ensemble of ten additional dancers and a new set by visual designer Ian Trask. Experimental theater artist Peter Petralia serves as dramaturge and NYU Tisch School of the Arts professor Kay Cummings assists Mills as editorial advisor.
The Feast (Part 1) is driven by questions about abundance and scarcity: When are our lives exposed to the point of feeling devoured? How are our senses nourished or starved? Performed by five dancers, the work examines these themes in extreme environments of tight and dark spaces. The lush yet stark movement is heightened by composer Jonathan Melville Pratt's aural landscape, which draws from a vast array of instruments synthesizers, microphones, percussion, guitars, piano, and voice layered on computer. The Feast (Part 1) will be costumed by Mary Kokie McNaugher and invites audiences to navigate the installation and help shape the space in which the dance exists.
The Tiffany Mills Company dancers are Jeffrey Duval, Kevin Ho, Tiffany Mills, Emily Pope-Blackman, and Petra van Noort. Guest artists for Berries and Bulls are Einy Am, Lucie Baker, Ching-I Chang, John Hoobyar, Elise Knudson, Nikolas Owens, Hannah Seidel, Kensaku Shinohara, Simon Thomas-Train, and Mei Yamanaka. Lighting design for the season is by Chris Hudacs.
The BAM performances are the culmination of Tiffany Mills Company's participation in BAM's new Professional Development Program, created in collaboration with the Kennedy Center's DeVos Institute of Arts Management.
DJ Brik Mason will be spinning at the Gala. Enjoy!!!!!
